Tummy Tuck

Sagging may occur in the abdominal area due to reasons such as pregnancy, rapid weight loss after excessive weight gain, and aging. The most effective method that can be applied to remove excess skin and fat in the abdominal area and tighten the sagging appearance is abdominoplasty.

Thanks to tummy tuck surgery, problems such as excess skin sagging in the abdominal area, excess fat and loosening of the anterior abdominal wall muscles can be eliminated in a single surgical procedure. In some patients, it may be possible to combine tummy tuck surgery with liposuction for more effective results.

What is Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure applied to remove excess skin and fat in the abdominal area due to various reasons and at the same time to tighten the loose muscles. Abdominoplasty should be planned individually to eliminate the problems that occur on and around the navel with the loosening of the muscle structure in the abdominal region.

Liposuction method can also be used in cases where there is a problem of adiposity. If only tummy tuck aesthetics is performed without liposuction in patients with adiposity, an aesthetically unpleasant appearance may occur. It is possible to obtain a firmer and flatter abdominal appearance after the surgical procedure.

Who is tummy tuck suitable for?

Abdominoplasty is usually applied to male and female patients between the ages of 30 and 60. However, suitability for surgery is evaluated individually.

  • Patients with fat in the abdominal area due to various reasons that cannot be removed with regular diet and exercise,
  • Dramatic weight loss or distortion of the abdominal shape due to pregnancy,
  • After a caesarean section or multiple pregnancies, the abdominal skin and muscles do not spontaneously assume their normal, taut shape,
  • With abdominal deformities,
  • Abdominal stretching can be performed on people whose abdominal muscles are weakened due to various reasons.

People who will undergo tummy tuck should not have health problems that prevent surgery. Although it may be possible to reduce the stretch marks in the area with tummy tuck surgery, it may not be possible to remove all stretch marks.

How is Tummy Tuck Performed?

Abdominoplasty can be performed with different techniques depending on the current condition of the abdominal area and the degree of the problem to be eliminated. If problems such as sagging and looseness in the abdominal area are high, a full tummy tuck surgery is performed and a larger area is worked on. In mini tummy tuck surgery, the procedure is performed on a more limited area.

The technique to be applied during abdominoplasty and the area to be intervened are determined individually according to other factors. A line-shaped incision is made from the area known as the caesarean scar to the sides. The cracked and sagging skin up to the belly button area is removed. The skin above the belly button is stretched downwards. A new belly button is created in the appropriate position. If there is excessive fat as well as sagging and loosening, liposuction is performed. Loosened abdominal muscles are tightened by placing retractor sutures on the abdominal wall membranes. Thus, it is ensured that the muscles in the region regain their former stiffness.

In mini tummy tuck surgery, smaller incisions are made over the groin area. Within the scope of the procedure applied in the area between the groin and belly button, only the area below the belly button is stretched. It is usually applied to people who have problems in the lower navel area and the belly button is not touched.

Recovery Process After Tummy Tuck

After tummy tuck surgery, a corset is used for the period specified by the plastic surgeon. For the first 3-4 days, the patient may feel tension in the abdomen. In this process, it is recommended to walk slightly tilted forward. Painkillers can be used to relieve the pain felt after surgery. In the early recovery period, a pillow should be placed under the knees and the legs should be bent at the hips. Heavy objects should not be lifted and brisk sports should not be done for 2 months after the operation.

In order to maintain the appearance obtained with tummy tuck aesthetics, exercises recommended by physicians should be performed regularly at an appropriate pace and attention should be paid to the diet. It is recommended to stop smoking and alcohol consumption during the healing process. Otherwise, the recovery period may be prolonged and the risk of infection may increase.
